Here's the fist of a few shots from the 24 hour race held at the Dubai Autodrome. Race starts on Friday at 14:00, but these are from the build up and during practice session 1.

Its noisy but I like the shot. It was my first time shooting moving cars this eve, it was dark and I was using a new lens. Took me a few shots to get it dialed in

Good shots from both, I guess it's always difficult with low light night shots deciding to bump up ISO for shutter speed V noise.

the shots with the 50 1.8 especially at high iso and at 1.8 remind me why I don`t really enjoy this lens at times. Mine produces similar results.
It seems to have focusing inconsistencies. Front or back focuses with varying distances.
I can see that the next purchase will be the 50 1.4 or Sigma 30 1.4

maxjj - Yeah, I'm not a fan of my 'nifty fifty'. I'm not completely sure why but it just doesnt seem to work for me.

Hikiingmike - Yes we do both have press passes (any orange photog bibs!!) but today we were at the track at different times.

I've been to the last two 24 hour races but not with media access, which so far is making all the difference. Otherwise you just end up with 200 shots of cars driving past from a couple of different viewpoints!

Ian and I will be meeting up during the event and we've both rented 70-200mm f2.8 lenses which should help at night. My 70-300 is handy during the day but won't cut it at night on darker areas of the track.

Seeing ianganderton's #6 I just thought: Oh... those tire thiefs are getting more and more impudent

Well the race is well underway and I'm on track with creating a photo blog post every hour so far. I was hampered by the internet being down but its sorted now.

Its proving a serious challenge to get out to locations, get shots, get back, upload and post then get back out to the track.

Shots are virtually unprocessed, come are cropped, some are 'boosted' in Picasa, some have been straightened or squewed. Most are as is.

I'm not going to bore you all with too many more from the weekend. Here are a few of the several thousand frames I shot.

I'm really pleased with this sunset shot. I identified that it would be a good opportunity well before the event and noted the times on my planning spreadsheet. When I visited the circuit the day before I clocked where the sun when down and then worked out the best location on the circuit map. It was the furthest point from the media centre and a bit of a hike out there to get it but the shot has worked pretty well

This is probably my personal favorite from the weekend. The cloud of dust is carbon from the brakes being released as the wheel nuts are undone

The next two are of sunrise. Again I'd planned for sunrise and managed to find a perfect location to shoot from. I've already posted one but cant decide which of the 3 I prefer. Phil liked the one directly below. I like the porsche in the first one I posted but also like the way the white car 2 below shows better in the light. I'd appriciate any feedback on this

This one should be called "marbles". As well as the track detritus this image has the Mustang which was probably the best looking car there.

While I dont think this is a toptastic image in its own right it is pretty good of a journalistic moment. Not many could have got this shot, I was one of the few who planned for it and made sure I'd baggsied the right place to get it in time
