thanks, I knew I was late. I wasn`t too worried about being entered or not. Its just a bit of harmless fun. Working 10* 12 hour shifts in 14 days will do that.

Getting the 31 pics for the Decemberfest was my main aim.

Hi jkstacey, Hi sbl03,

Thanks for the kind comments (and votes!). Helps motivate me for the next night out of bed although we have now got to the point where the Moon is going to be an issue for the next week or two. :(

Provided you are logged on and haven't already voted in the poll of inerest then as soon as you view the thread containing the poll you should see the poll itself at the top of each page. Select the radiobutton you want and then scroll down and click the Submit Vote button.

This month was difficult to vote as the entries were so good, my vote went to Bob because it's totally unusual and the image looks great. Also the effort taken to produce this on.

Cheers

Hi James,

Thanks. If you go to the FLI website's front page you'll see a Flash banner. As I write the set-up is on panel 7 (click the "7" near the bottom right of the banner) but the number might change. FLI make both the camera and the filter wheel and they were sufficiently impressed by my mounting solution for the CenterLine wheel to use a picture of same. 8)

Bob.

Wow, cool! I cannot even comprehend how these cameras work, but the results are amazing. Educate me. What does the cooling do? I see them rated to some extreme low temperatures.

Hi James,

Simply put, cooling reduces image noise. It also has a benefit that you can run the sensor at the same temperature (within limits) during all seasons which makes building a library of dark and bias calibration frames more straightforward. I'm still near the bottom of the learning curve, though, as the December submission was only my second deep exposure with the new kit.

Bob.

Hi Bjorn, Hi folks,

A big thank you to all who voted for my entry and congratulations to everyone who took part. Some cracking shots and, for the record, I actually voted for someone else.

And, while I'm offering thanks, I'd like to say a big Thank You to Bjorn for the time he spends organising the "On Assignment" competitions. Having done it myself in the past it's surprising just how much time one has to spend on the various tasks during a month so we are all in Bjorn's debt.

It's time to decide on February's subject. Some of the old-timers here might remember that I was an airline pilot for some thirty years so my choice should be no surprise.

February's subject is "Wings". That could be anything from insects to birds to aircraft - if it has wings and we can see 'em then it's fair game. Everyone should be able to find a suitable subject so the real challenge will be getting that jaw-dropping shot that makes us all go "Wow". Post-processing is allowed. Good luck.

Bob.
