.
I absolutely wouldn't have bought it if I didn't already have a BB and even with one it was a close call. But it will allow me to use the Berry's 3G connection via BlackBerry Bridge totally bypassing the usual tethered charges from my mobile network and that will be useful when I'm up in the Lake District as I don't have a landline up there. I'm not into games so my only other uses other than as a larger screen option for the phone will be for an ocassional e-book and possibly for photo viewing.

Bob.

I bought a cheap tablet to use to review photos but it just didn't really work out. The screen isn't too good, USB cardreaders are flaky with android tablets, the embedded jpeg preview in raw files isn't large enough, there are no good android raw converters, and shooting wirelessly is expensive and doesn't work well with CF cards.

But so far Android + Eye-Fi seems to be the best solution, or ChainFire's DSLR controller, but that's only for Canon so far.

Came across a deal I couldn't say no to. An almost new D300 at a great price.

My final purchase of 2011 was the 5D I have already mentioned in other posts in the Canon section. The seemingly imminent release of a successor to the 5D2 seems to have depressed 5D1 prices a bit, and a local dealer had a very clean one available. I am liking it thus far!

Two days ago, the same dealer had several big white lenses, and upon closer examination, one was a very clean, like-new pre-owned 400mm 5.6, which nailed focus very well on the 5D. Well, this one came home with me, as my first major purchase of 2012. A decent bird lens was a goal, though I had really gone there to see about a 135mm L. Well, the L will have to wait a while.

Congratulations, WestCoast! I had recently considered a pre-owned D300, before a D2x caught my attention, and then the aforementioned 5D caused me to postpone Nikon digital indefinitely.

I love your thought process Rexgig!

"Hmmm...this 5D looks like it's better than the D2x, I guess I'll buy it!
Oh well, now that I have that, I might as well buy a 400mm"

Nice one Westcoast! Glad you chose the right side

Not choosing sides, only adding to my toy collection.
There is a lot of great deals right now in the "used" market, must be the economy or something.

Also picked up this FF A900, but my girlfriend has claimed it already.

Purchased 17inch MacBook Pro today using the student discount. I was lucky enough to receive nearly £500 worth of discounts including £200 off apple care :D

Specs are:
2.4ghz Quad core i7
4gb Ram (I will upgrade to 16gb myself within the next month)
750gb HDD (256 Crucial M4 SSD installed soon)
1gb graphics Card

However when I got home and was preparing to install my SSD I realised apple no longer provide a copy of the operating system on a CD. This means I would not be able to install the OS on the new SSD. After a chat with apple on the phone they have kindly agreed to install the SSD for me and install the OS. Very nice of them considering they normally don't touch third party SSD. Although my appointment is next Saturday :(
