Does the Canon 430ex ii have an optical photocell slave to detect generic flashes?

I mainly use a DSLR, but occasionly I use a 'point and shoot', and it would be useful to have. Cheaper flash units have them, yet this one doesn't.

You're right. The Nissin DI 866 MKII, if I'm not mistaken, has an in-built optical slave that can ignore ETTL pre-flashes.
