Guys i have Nikon D7000 with AFS 28mm-300mm 3.5-5.6 ED VR and im new to the photography with DSLRs. I usually take pics of landscaps, scenaries and a person in front of a building or a mountain. Do you think this lens would let me do what i want or should i go for any other types too?

Well . . . depends on the type of photo you want, and nobody can really answer that but you.

Just use the lens for a while and see where you feel limited. You could want a wider angle lens - think telephoto is well covered with what you have!

I tend to inhabit the wider end of the focal lengths, but one day I just took my 70-300 and was quite happy with that too. You can adapt to a set of focal lengths surprisingly well.

And there's another thought - I often long for a lens wider than 16mm, but on those rare occasions (some of them) I can overlap shots and stitch them. Won't work for action, of course.

But take lots of photos. If many of them are on 28mm, you may need to go wider. If they're spread through the focal range, you might have saved yourself some money!

The 28-300 is equivalent to 42-450 on DX, and you might find it a bit too long your lanscapes. You can complete it's range with an excellent 10-24mm, and have a great pair of lenses. Or trade it for a 18-200, but it's really a personal choice.

I have the 28-300 myself (see my review) and it's a very versatile lens. As I now also have some experience using a 24-70 from my visit to Venice (see there) and it turned out that 28% of the shots with the 24-70mm were at 24mm plus I used the 14-24mm in 13% of the shots. So this might be an indicator that at least when visiting a city 28mm might indeed be too long.
But if you complement it with a 10-24mm like PauloFeitosa_Curitiba suggested you have a very powerful combo that should cover almost every situation.
Unfortunately there's one thing to keep in mind: when changing lenses you might lose precious moments and miss the shot and it's also an opportunity for dirt getting into the system. So if you#re looking for a real all-round zoom for your D7000 get a Nikon VR 16-85mm or VR 18-105mm.

Hi prasadsabhavat, I can voucher for Thomas' recommendation about the 16-85 as an all-round zoom on the D7000, having one myself: fantastic quality (both image and built), and a much useful 16mm wide end (though only 2mm shorter than the more common 18mm wide end, they make a lot of difference). I usually travel just with it; sometimes I also take a 10.5mm (for instance, churches and museums), other times I'd rather complement it with a 70-300VR (zoos, wild areas with animals). Although they compose a good set of lenses, please note that it's uncomfortable to carry, slow to use, and I *have* lost shots due to having the wrong lens at the moment. Regarding trading all for a 18-200, personally, I'm waiting for the much anticipated Nikkor 18-300 already patented by Nikon.

I love the 16-85, the 2mm is a world of a difference. I was using a friend's D3100 and 18-55 yesterday, and was bothered when I couldn't get wide enough for 30% of my shots. Although it doesn't sound like much, it has a huge effect. Pair that with something like a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 for your landscapes, a 35mm or 50mm f/1.8 for indoors and a 70-300 or 70-200 for telephoto shots, and you have a wicked combo that you can't go wrong with. You could even throw in a 10.5mm fisheye such as Paulo's, or settle for a cheaper manual model from off-brands such as Opteka or Bower.
