Hello,

I've been away from photography for a couple of years after an emergency forced me to sell my trusty D40 and lenses. Happily I've managed to get some new kit and found myself here reading some of the excellent reviews and advice in the forums (live view will warm your sensor, turn your Nikon off during noise reduction....)

I first got into photography at Art college in the '80's using a K1000, later became interested in Colour Theory and Optics. My main interest is Astronomy but living near to the docks in sunny Liverpool makes things tricky. Weather, BAD light pollution and being surrounded by fast food shops (localized heat sources further hamper "seeing") doesn't help but it keeps me entertained. One upside is that we get great Sunsets over the River Mersey.

This is the first photography forum I've joined and I've already gained a lot. I hope to be out and about with my new toys (not just in the yard in the dark) in the coming weeks. So that's me, I might pop over to the Moon sticky and post one of my efforts.

Thanks

Welcome.

You'll be fine on here, especially with the astrophotography boffins.
Looking forward to seeing some of your pics.

Welcome to the forums, maksutov! I've also recently done some astrophotography work, but have been bothered by light pollution from the city (plus the -40 degree weather...)

See you around!

Thanks for the welcome, a couple of the "astrophotography boffins" have already been helpful. Weather here is not good (but better than -40!) so I'll continue trying to make some Bhatinov masks for when things improve.
