Hi everyone! Welcome to November's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Travel", as suggested by ianganderton who won the September 2011 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules.

In ianganderton's own words:

"As I'm hoping to skip off to Sri Lanka next month I figured I choose 'TRAVEL' in line with the dictionary definition http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/travel rather than photography of far flung places."


The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it MUST be taken during November 2011. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 1024 pixels on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. Keep it clean and family-friendly or it'll be removed. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

An underground train system is familiar to many people around the world even if it is not something they use every day. London started it all and this station was opened in 1868. I may have been playing tourist that day, but how many countless millions of people have passed through here for various reasons?

Taken today at Colombo airport, Sri Lanka, a solo traveller kills time. I think this image typifies the "Hurry up and Wait" character of air travel.

Strong diffused daylight from windows behind him burns out the white wall beyond. Point of focus 3 chairs down rendering the figure slightly soft. Desaturated to b/w to add to the feeling of despair!

Visiting a distant city (Auckland New Zealand) I took a trip on a ferry and saw the sail training ship "Spirit of New Zealand" with a good spread of sail rapidly overhauling a lesser yacht.

Hey guys, just got my first SLR a few months ago and new to this photography stuff. Its lots of fun and I stumbled across this photo contest and its a fun idea, so i will post a picture. This was taken on our anniversary trip to NYC. Its of the Columbus square. I thought it was neat to capture the hustle and bustle of New York and of course a few yellow taxi's in there. The statue was quite nice and i shot this from a mall across the street where the window was separated into panes. I decided to use the panes of glass to try and "capture" the picture.

Shot with my new D7000 and Nikon 18-200mm lens. Shot at 70mm, 1/250 and F5. Post processed just to change sharpness and contrast. Taken on Vivid setting.

I think I figured things out as far as rules for posting as I resized the image so just let me know if i did something wrong.
