OK guys - This little forum needs a bit of invigorating!

How about we set up a Decemberfest? The idea being to each post a thread, say in the 'On Assignment' section, named Decemberfest followed by your name (i.e. Decemberfest dubaiphil). Then we snap away as much as possible during the month on the run up to the New Year, picking one lens and one body.

That's not to say we'd just use one lens throughout the month, but for the purpose of the Assignment.

So we'd treat it as if is were a 31 day project, posting as frequently as possible. No competition, no voting, just people of all levels of experience and ability getting together on here sharing their photography and comments for the run up to the end of year festivities.

Anyone interested? Then post your interest below (along with the camera and lens you'll be using)

ok, good idea. I will be using the 7D and just for something different will use the 100 Macro 2.8 L.
Might not get a pic up every day, but will try for 31 in total.

Great idea! I think I will join too. As I'm doing a Project 365 this year I have to take at least one pic every day anyway. I will post those I feel are post-worthy!

Don't think I can limit myself to one lens and one body though. What about two bodies and three lenses?

In a "the best camera is the one you have with you" sense, I'd have to nominate the HX9V as I'm plain unlikely to carry anything else every day particularly that month.

So far we have:

warth man - D7000 @ 16-85mm
djfsolo - A850 @ 24-70mm
popo - HX9V
janern - yet to commit!
dubaiphil - D700 @ 14-24mm (I can't be another member copping out with a standard zoom!!!)

Any other takers? Go on, we don't bite - it might even be fun...

You forgot maxjj, who certainly sets out not to be "standard zoom." Anyway, us nervous types with less experience need the breaks.

I think I might follow maxjj with the 100mm 2.8L Macro lens as it's very flexible one offering good image quality. The 100-400mm lens is nice as well but it's very "special" and doesn't get as much light as the 2.8... the 18-55mm IS is just... well - you know. My Sigma 12-24mm is nice, too but again: not as flexible as the 100mm 2.8 (but it might be interesting using an ultra wide lens  ). The 50mm 1.8... nah...

I guess I'll stay with the 100mm 2.8L and my 500D.

Hi, dubaiphil.
I don't think I understood your proposition... (My English turns out to be worse than I thought :() You'd like the participants to create a topic in "On Assignment" and then post a picture taken every day during all December. Is this correct?
Thanks for your answer.

I like the idea, but if too many people show interest (or join in after the first of December), we'll end up with pages full of threads. So you'd have to establish some rules. For example, only threads started on Dec 1st or, say, Nov 30th, could stay, and if a picture isn't added to the thread on two consecutive days, the thread will be locked.

That being said, I'd be interested in joining, but I'll have to have a look at my work schedule first.

Taking the risk of failling a couple of days, I'm game.

I will take the 10D and the 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM.

Hi All, i personally think the Decemberfest should be on the Off Topic section of the forums and not on the monthly assignment. I feel the lack of submissions the last few months reflect on how tough the assignments were, one being difficult to get a shot and the other assignment too wide a choice. Also if the Decemberfest stays on the assignment with all the postings people might not bother with the assignment anymore, which would be a real shame. This is only my opinion.
Sue

Well let's just can the idea then - I'm purely trying to get a bit of a challenge together with the aim of people taking photos of anything (not limited to the topic of an assignment) on a regular basis (not even daily, but that's the general idea).

The plan was not for a voted competition, but for people to actually take photos and post them, and perhaps get a few more of the members of the forum interested in posting pictures in a non competition environment.

But hey, nevermind!
