hey guys,

I am new here, and got my first dslr Nikon D5100. I wanna buy a all-in-one lens to update my 18-55 kit lens. Nikon 18-200 vr II is too expensive for me (student now). I find sigma 18-200 is cheaper. How is it? Any better choice?

Another question, d5100 has no built-in motor, so HSM in sigma lens is needed. However, I searched sigma lens on Amazon, they always propose " Sigma 18-200 DC OS for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras", but does not say HSM. Does it mean that it's not compatible with d5100?

Thanks!

Hello Goldberg, and welcome to the friendly Camera Labs forum!
To enjoy your stay here please have a look at the house-rules!
----
There is a review of the older version of this lens from Gordon here. He also compares it to the Nikon and Tamron variant.
Sigma's latest incarnation of this lens, the Sigma AF 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM II has optical stabilization (very helpfull at longer focal lengths) and HSM, so will focus on your Nikon 5100 body.
Unfortunately I can't find a decent review as this model was just announced. But its immediate predecessor AF 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM has the same features plsu you can find a review there.

@Thomas

I searched the latest lens you mentioned on Internet- Sigma AF 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM II, but I couldn't find any news about that!
All I found was its immediate predecessor AF 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM.
Where can I buy that new lens? Could you please give me a link about it? Thanks!

The press-release is from Oct. 6th and they claim to deliver it in October too.
