My first 'wildlife' shot...well a seagull anyway

34mm are a bit short for those shots and at 1/13 sec the image looks a bit blurred. In those cases I'd prefer a bit more noise from a higher ISO over the camera shake at 1/13 sec.

Jiko is absolutely right here.
It seems you're shooting a lot at dimly lit hours. This can be very challenging if you don't crank up your ISO to say 400 or even 800. That would give you a 4x or 8x faster shutter speed which puts you on the safer side (safer from shake that is).
It would also let you zoom in more closely as the risk of shake rises linearly with the focal length. And zooming in would have get yourself rid of the gully in front and focus more clearly on the seagull.

You mentioned earlier that you owned a 75-300mm, that would probably help in a situation like this. Shoot wide open and crank up the ISO until you get shots that you'll be able to handhold without cropping. Another solution is to crop, but make sure that your photo will be "cropable" (clear enough that there's no noticeable blur after a crop). Good luck in the future!

I agree with what was written above. Would also add by cropping the image you can eliminate some of the unwanted stuff such as the metal hole cover in the front.
