Old news or not, it's never good PR to say only the most expensive gear is useful given that only so many people can afford it or only so many people could justify spending that much money with the return they'd get on it.

Such a statement won't necessarily persuade people to open their wallets further, if anything it would just reduce confidence among some people in the high-volume, low-margin products.

I wonder if the author of that press release was surnamed "Ratner"...

well then,let's talk about Canon's marketing bigger LCDs & sensors is always a good thing,great movie mode,not including basic accesories with their cameras & lenses,replacing magnesium bodies with "plastic alloy",putting very outdated AF systems in high end cameras,including poor quality zooms with high end cameras as kit etc.

but jokes & mean comments aside,it would be impossible to say that any brand's marketing team cares a lot about photography. look at Pentax

You're right by saying that they don't care too much about photography, making cameras different colours isn't going to sell them. Improving the sensor performance or the AF is what's important.

Weeeell, I think Nikon understood that they made a mistake. They outright apologized for it.
So at least someone at Nikon has sense
