shame to see a company with such proud history fail, I just had a quick look on Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastman_Kodak

Seems like they have been in decline for nearly a decade. I guess they just couldn`t compete in the digital image age.

filing for bankruptcy doens't mean that they won't continue to make products after a restart or a sell-off of their assests.

But I wonder what wil happen, doesn't kodak make the sensor in the leica m9-(p) camera's?

.
Kodak also make a selection of semsors used in scientific equipment.

Bankruptcy doesn't mean Kodak will disappear but some aspects of its business may be sold off. I'd guess its patent portfolio will be worth a lot as well.

Not an expert on it, but there's more than one level of bankruptcy. The lesser one is protection from creditors while they restructure, but they can continue operating during that.

Well I'm not affraid kodak stops producing sensors, it's basicaly the most future proof segment of the company. But if they go bankrupt I wonder if they have a temporary production stop, and what that wil mean to other companies such a Leica

Hi folks,

Kodak has "completed the sale of its Image Sensor Solutions (ISS) business to Platinum Equity". The full press release is here and you can read more about Platinum Equity here.

I'm guessing that that pretty much secures the future for Kodak camera sensors for a good few years even if Platinum Equity does divest itself of the business at some future date. Might be good news for Leica, although Leica have strongly indicated a future move to CMOS, and it's certainly good news for those of us who have commitments to Kodak in the astrophotography field. 8)
