hi

Yesterday i got my new PC and have started to move all my Lightroom photos from my Laptop to my desktop with my external hard drive, All my pics are DNG and contained in one folder.

I transferd one file to 'test' it out and discovered that the DNG pics are not the edited versions i made on the laptop, i thought edited pics were saved automatically? and if so, where are my edited pics! Can i transfer those to my new desktop?

sorry for all the questions all help appreciated :-)

The DNG files are your RAW files and are not the edited versions, all the edits for those files are contained in XML data. What you need to do is go to the Library module and select your folders or "all Photographs" from the (American Spelling) Catalog tab and then it's

file>Export as Catalog.

Then you can import from Catalogue on your new PC and all your edits should be there..

Not to mention that Lightroom keeps a database/catalog with all your settings, and sometimes writes those setings to a file that accompanies your photo (an XMP sidecart).
