 Post subject: How Many?
PostPosted: Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:02 pm
Just got my camera, and just relealisd that I've taken 548 in a week! my God me finger hurts and has blisters on them, and the hard drives filling up,but loving it :P :P :P
Is it true that you should run up 100,000 without wearing anything out?

but the main reason is HOW MANY HAVE YOU TAKEN?

The shutter mechanisms on most DSLRs are tested to withstand about 100,000 actuations. The higher end cameras are said to be good for 150,000 or more. I dare say the in-camera electronics are likely to fail before the shutter. I haven't had a camera fail yet and I don't know anyone who has, apart from cheap P&S cameras that don't seem to have much of a lifespan.
I have 6 cameras so no camera gets to work too hard. My D40 is up to about 12,000 shots, the D80 about 4,000 (last camera I bought second hand). My D300 is about 6,000. That's only 22,000 in three years on DSLRs plus about 2,000 on my compacts although I have no real idea of the figure.
I have no intention of "upgrading" any of my cameras and will only get another if and when one of my DSLRs gives up the ghost. I will probably get a full frame camera then, the D700 or whatever is available around that spec and price point.

well when i bought 60D i shot 1000+ in one day, but that was learning (in action)

now, after 8 months i am close to 9000, and i am only shooting every two weekends, if the camera can withstand 150000, that is 1,5 year in my speed.

damn, i hope it will last long, but even if it fails, please in warranty time

2,000+ must have been one long night, and a lot of visits to the computer to download them.
I borrowed a 512MB memory card, shooting in RAW & Jpeg I only shoot 20-30 or so it seems. cant uderstand why it didn't come with one?

I have 2x8GB in my D7000, that seems to do me OK, I've only ever used more than one of them once up to now.

I've taken about 4,300 with my 550D (around 1,300 of which were taken at the Belgian Grand Prix last month) and with the 7D I hired, I did about 2,800 shots.

I have a 32GB Class 10 SDHC for video and four 8GB SDHC for photos (and a 16GB CF I used when hiring the 7D). I break the photos up across multiple cards for reasons of damage limitation.

3506 on my D3100 and just 1785 on my D7000, it's not been a year since I bought my first DSLR.

2x8GB +1x4GB for the D90, 1x8GB +1x4GB for the D2H, which makes smaller image files.

The 2000+ shots was in approximately 3 hours. Big concert, 40.000 people behind me.

I just turned 30 000 on the 50D which I've had for 14 months now. Max number of pics I've taken in one go is around 500 (max on my 8 GB CF card), and that has happened quite a few times. I have not felt the need to get a bigger or another card yet though.
The 600D has only about 500 exposures (in four weeks), but quite a few videos. For the 600D I use a 16 GB card.

Probably a silly question, but how do you know/check on the number of camera actuations? :?
(hope it aint as simple as reading the manual to find the obvious answer on how to do it  )

Google a small piece of software called exiftool put it on your desktop and drag your image on it, it'll open up a command line and display all the exif info including the shutter count. there are others available but this is the simplest I've found.
