I find it amusing the reactions to these... I think everyone has similar thoughts the first time. I thought it was an ugly rabbit when I first saw one running around Whipsnade.

I remember reading that these are most closely related to guinea pigs. I saw some at an exotic pet dealer in Houston in the 1980s.

It is totally a Mara. Initially thought it was a capybara but they are proportioned a bit differently. I really like the first shot
