heard the big bang of 2 heads coming together... by the time I got turned and got my camera up they had already reared up on thier hind legs and came together... I caught just the end of the second coming together of horns... this is an amazing sight and sound. Some day I will catch the entire sequence...

Well not quite at the quality the WolfSong does...but here is my attempt after taking a couple days away from work with Momma back to where we first lived when we got married...many...many years ago.

Image
A young Whitetail buck that came pretty close to us.

Image
The first group of Antelope that we saw once getting into Wyoming.

Image
This one just was to tired from chasing does to be bothered by me.

Image
Momma and me would get up way ealry and scout before there was enough light to take pictures...or so I thought. This buck walked right in front of our rig, so I jumped out and took his picture with the built in flash and my 300mm f2.8. I still chuckle when thinking about it.

My favorite picture of the trip. My wife seen him coming from a half mile away so she takes credit for this shot.
The trip was a blast but the last two days we got rained out.

awesome shots dete.. for me the shots are more about the memories... some of my worst quality wise are some of my favorites. Just these days I have a lot of time to go out to take pics... as a matter of fact its all I did all summer... I was bound to get some good shots.. as would anyone with that much time :D

Thanks Wolfsong! I ended up with about 850 pictures taken and saved 600 of them. I have no idea what I am going to do with them, but I already have several requests from friends and family to make a group of them to share for desktop backgrounds.

came across this little gal drinking at a water hole... I love these moments cause I managed to approach her without her noticing giving me the opportunity of getting some shots showing completely natural behavior.

This situation happened only because she was drinking at a creek with a 3 meter high ridge on one side, much like the mule deer fawn pics I posted earlier. This allowed me an easy approach out of her sight as well as down wind. The only way I could have messed this approach up was if I would have made some noise.

Some young mountain goats... I noticed them off a ways grazing so I decided to climb a small tree in their path a short distance ahead of them. Sat there for about 30 min and it payed off as they moved really close. Not the best angle as I was shooting down on them a bit but I would not have gotten this close without having been where I was. A good trade-off in my opinion.

Got a few more from this encounter.. just need to do a bit of post processing on them... should be posting them soon I hope.

Nice shots from from both.

@ Dete, it looks like some slight camera shake in your shots and the Exif speed data I think is a bit slow. What 500mm lens are you using, have a look at Exif data on Wolf's shots and also note the EV setting, also the ISO used to increase the speed. Not sure why would used f2.8 on some of these.

Cheers

4xxxx, The one taken @500 mm was my 300 mm f2.8 lens with the TC 1.7 attached on a mono pod. All of the big game photos are taken at less then "Ideal" light quality times except for this one. I may need to use the tripod whenever I break out the 500mm.

The elk was before the sun came up from behind the hills. I actually have a few photos of the sun peeking over the top of the hills through the trees to the east of where I took the elk picture after taking the elk pictures.

Just a note of interest, I try to take photos of big game animals that are "wild". What I mean by that are big game populations that are hunted.

That is part of the challenge that I have set for myself. I just need to remember that what is conductive to a successful hunt, does not always apply to getting a good picture. i.e. low light conditions which increases movement and visibility of the animal being pursued.

One of the pictures I really wanted to get during this trip was of the milky way....far away from any city lights, but it never happened due to weather conditions.

The real shame is I have not taken another picture since the trip...real life keeps getting in the way of this hobby.

Well I have been complaining about the lack of deer in my area.
I just looked back through the thread and these few are in fact about the only ones I have encountered all summer.
I have been workjing ...alot... this summer but still should have seen way more deer than this while around home!!
