I think that SONY has a serous offering on their hands - the appropriate "serious" counterpart to their NEX7.

Standout features that makes this camera attractive:
- Fast AF
- Very good sweep panoramas
- Last, but not least, enhanced dynamic range

I think that Nikon should step up their game and get with the times a little - the D300 -> D300S upgrade took place a long time ago and it's essentially the same camera. Nikon needs a new offering in the enthusiast/semi-pro bracket to respond to this and the Canon 60D and I personally feel that they have neglected some of the more modern features such as panoramas, improved dynamic range and - although I cringe at saying so - also built-in effects.

I'm quite excited to see some actual tests of this model.

Certainly interesting, although I think it wise to wait for more full reviews to appear. Then again with the availability a little way off there's plenty of time.

As for the competition, certainly the Nikon successor to the D300 is about due, and there's already rumblings in Canon-land for a 7D successor, although I don't think that'll happen any time soon.

LahLahSr, interesting comment on the 60D, I thought the Nikon answer to that was already here: the D7000?

Looks like an excellent camera, Sony finally has a camera with a major edge over the Canikon offerings, the translucent mirror. For the person looking for a DSLR with fast AF and a fast continuous burst, plus good AF during movies, this would be an excellent choice. The a33 and a55 were always interesting cameras, but they lacked features that may appeal to the "enthusiast", with the better build, dedicated control buttons plus the top LCD monitor. "Enthusiast" seemed to be the theme of the latest announcement, with the NEX-7 mirrorless and all.

I'm interested in seeing how this camera and its sensor stack up to the D7000's/D5100's 16 MP sensor. 24 MP certainly seems like a lot, so I'm curious about what the high ISO performance is like.

Too bad there aren't any production standard cameras yet...Let alone RAW support. I mean, everyone's whining about the high ISO shots on Imaging Resource, but these are just straight-out-of-the-camera JPEGs, after all.

Oh, and it needs a buffer memory upgrade badly, like Nikon did with the D3. Or perhaps a firmware update like Pentax did with their K-5...
