I got this as the kit lens with my D80 and have been very happy with it. It is the main reason why I chose the D80 over the equivalent Canon. All photo were taken with my D80 using NEF and post processed using Lightroom. Here are a few examples to show what it can do.

Thanks for the samples. I've been debating whether I should get the 18-70mm or 18-135mm when I purchase a D80. I was shying away from the 18-135mm as I heard it has quite a bit of camera shake in the final shots due to lack of VR. I was thinking that the camera shake from the 18-135mm lens might not be that annoying, but now that I've seen what the 18-70mm is capable of I'll get it first and sacrifice the longer focal range, then get perhaps the 70-300mm VR or even 18-200mm VR, or something equivalent around that time, later on.

Did you use any filters or do any post processing on these images?

I had a UV filter on the lens and did the minimum of post processing in Lightroom, mainly to adjust the exposure and slightly sharpen the images.

I heard some people like to leave a filter on their lens all the time, mainly for the purpose of protecting the outer element from being scratched, without much effect being made to the final image.

Is this filter they're talking about the UV filter you're using in these images?

Yes, I have a UV filter on my 18-70mm and 70-300mm lenses all the time for protection.

I've got loads more photos by this lens, but as I feel this has the most detail, i think this shot pretty much sums up the quality of this lens.

That's it, I'm sold on the 18-70 now. Definitely will not get the kit 18-135, even if it means buying the body and lens separately.

Yes, this lens does vignette on the wide end - not necessarily a bad thing though.

I have done so for my 10-20 Sigma posting. I don't think the 18-70 deserves any more 100% crops as Gordon has a solid review on the main site.
