Hi everyone! Welcome to July's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Antique/vintage/nostalgia", as suggested by Lensbaby who won the May 2010 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules.

In Lensbaby's own words:
"The subject for July submissions I have chosen is "antique-vintage-nostalgia".
Post process to your hearts desire. Submissions can be color, sepia, or black and white, but should portray either the sense of another time, or an actual article that is antique."

The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it MUST be taken during July 2011. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 1024 pixels on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. Keep it clean and family-friendly or it'll be removed. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Camera Model:
Lens and focal length:
Aperture:
Shutter Speed:
Sensitivity:
Post processing:

Submissions will close at midnight GMT on 31st July 2011. The final poll will follow.

Please remember this thread is for submissions only. If you'd like to comment on any of the submissions or ask any questions, please do so in the July 2011 Comments and Questions thread!

Thanks and good luck!

- Bjorn -

A vintage sailing barge in the Moray Firth near Inverness, Scotland en route to a heritage nautical event.
I've tried to make it look a bit like one of those old slightly washed-out hand-coloured postcards.

The steam in the background is from Ye Olde Norbord Plywoode Workes!!

cameralabs vintage contest entry by markobrutus, on Flickr

This was a fun edit. I knew when I heard this was going to be the challenge that I wanted to do an overlay texture.

I took a texture and copied it on top of my image and put the blending mode to overlay.

(http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnbill/4 ... otostream/) <-- that is the texture I used.

I added a bit of grain and darkened it up a bit for a moody feel.

Happy with my outcome. :)

EXIF - f/11... 3 second exposure... 200 ISO...

WWII Die-Cast Replica

Caught this plane taking off at my regional airport. made a few tweaks in the curve editor, added some noise, and it turned out looking like an illustration from an old model replica box.

This is a scene that hasn't changed for a long time, so it was ripe for conversion to black and white and given a vintage feel.

Souk Passageway

Image

Camera Model: Nikon D700
Lens and focal length: 14-24mm f2.8 @ 15mm
Aperture: f8
Shutter Speed: 1/160th
Sensitivity: ISO200
Post processing: Original colour image given a boost in tonal contrast using Colour Efex v.3, before converting to monotone using Silver Efex 2. Sepia toning, vignette addition, local brightness enhancements around the man's face and body, adding a little grain and punching up the structure and contrast to enhance the details along the passageway. Finally adding a vintage effect frame.

I had baked some cookies a few days ago, which inspired me to make this scene. I was trying to go for the "Grandma's House" look with the traditional china, the apron, the tablecloth etc.

Image

Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 (at 42mm, 63mm eq.)
Aperture: f/7.1
Mode: Manual
Exposure: 1/15th (tripod mounted)
ISO: 500
Exposure Bias: None
Flash: Diffused pop-up flash
Post Processing: Got rid of the reflections on the china from the flash, brightened up some of the china, converted the image to B&W, added some noise, added a vignetting effect.

Here is a picture of mine. Its an old steam train that still works somewhere at an old trainstation in Holland. I Tried to make some detailed shots of the train and tried to find a nice composition and this is what came out.

Shooting date: 02 July 2011.
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Nikkor AF-S 35mm F1.8G
Focal lenghth: 35mm
Aperture: F3.5
AF-Area: single focus point
Shutterspeed: 1/320 sec (handheld)
ISO sensitivity: ISO160
Shooting Mode: Aperture priority mode.

Post processing done in CaptureNX2:
- I have set a black control point and white conrol point.
- I set a Highpassfilter to sharpen the image a bit
- I did a crop
- I converted to SRGB color profile
- I set Photo effects: Sephia
- I resized the image due to contest rules.

Hi this is my old collection of beer bottles from different countries and they remind me of the old days you know when there were not that much technology, internet, smartphones and that stuff, those days when you hang out with your friends to grab a beer.

A Hawker biplane (sorry, can't remember which type it exactly is at this moment ) at the Flying Legends 2011 Air Show (Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK). Thank you to WestCoast for suggesting this one as my very first entry for this contest ;). I tried to make it look like a photograph from the late 1920s/early 1930s (the good ol' days ;)), hope I succeeded in doing so :).
