Getting the highest SR5 rating at SonyAlphaRumors is the claim that Sony will be making a translucent mirror add-on for NEX which effectively turns it into a SLT for use with Alpha-mount lenses. Combine with the earlier rumour of the NEX-7 with built in EVF, you have to wonder if Sony will be able to convert existing and future Alpha users to the NEX?

Assumptions: A high end NEX combined with translucent mirror module should be able to equal an existing SLT model. Then there wouldn't be much of a need for dedicated SLT models in the far future. SLRs may drop off the wayside even sooner. Once everyone has a NEX, then can continue with NEX lenses, while not ruling out ongoing usage of many legacy Alpha lenses.

In other words, Sony may be the only one with a somewhat elegant transition plan from mirror to mirrorless systems.

That's my dilemma right now. Should I upgrade to an NEX-7 with adapter or the A77.
I kind of prefer the versatility of the NEX, assuming both offer the same performance.
This time next month it should all be a lot clearer.

Well, it is a bit early to make any decisions based on two products while still don't officially exist, SR5 rating or not!

To be honest, I would still prefer a camera with conventional handling, to put it that way.

I mean, you can't really use a 70-400 on a NEX camera properly, can you :P ?

It's been done, but for balance and your type of shooting, air shows/birds the a77 may be better.

Since I like "street" type of photography, the NEX-7 gives me the best of both worlds.
I will reserve judgment until they come out next month though.

If you have have a NEX-7 or some future "pro" NEX with mirror module, on it, is it really much different from a SLT body with EVF? The lines would be very much blurred if Sony went ahead with this.

Agree, technically they may be the same, but esthetically the NEX is more inline with a classic street style of a Leica or Fuji.
Dare to be different.
