There was an acrobatic show playing at a mall last week - I had the D700 and 70-300 available to take a few shots. The light was pretty poor and the lens pretty slow so in order to stop action I had to stop down to f6.3 and use ISO2500.

I'd just stepped out of the local Nikon dealer to try the 200mm f2 and 300mm f2.8, so initially hated the plasticy feel, slow hunting focus and slowness of the lens (thats what happens after trying out lenses that cost 10x the amount!) - managed perfectly useable results though:

is d700 that good in high iso??? those shots are amazing phil, you have started to do some great street photos recently..

Wonderful shots Phil, excellent composition and the vignetting was a nice touch.

No 1 had some noise reduction applied in conversion in Adobe Camera Raw and the others didn't. ISO 2500's nothing really, as up to 6400 still yields really good results. The goalposts have moved considerably after the D90, where ISO 1600 would have alarm bells ringing! The big difference with increasing ISO is the colour representation. It's still clean as a bell with beautiful tone at high ISOs - I'm more than happy with a lowly 12Mp on FX!

Thanks EvanK - everyone used to say "where are all the people" in my Dubai shots, particularly long exposures where traffic and people disappear in the scene.

And as for 'Spiderman", some of my shots of him are definitely NSFW!!!

Yes, I seem to recall the majority of your older shots being city landscapes, lots of long exposures. Don't get me wrong, they were verynice photos (and Dubai is such a beautiful city, I'd love to visit one day), but it's nice to see a little change.

I've only had one shoot in the last 2 1/2 months with a tripod (for a night pano) - I felt naked for a while but pretty liberated now with a few fast lenses.
