I was not able to find an Ant thread so I'll put it here. Since a naked kit lens doesn’t go that far I had to play with composition (witch is hard because of the hugely shallow DoF). Why am I saying this? Well you know best... :)

Very late answer after more than a year but that's a nice one. I don't know the English name but in German it's a "Moschusbockkäfer" (what a cruel word ;) ). We have got some of those in our garden or to be more precise in our tree. But they are living in... "ill" trees and yes, we had to cut our tree as it might have fallen onto the street in a storm. The other half of the tree had already fallen onto our house...
The tree is growing again and few weeks ago I saw another one of those beauties.
Here is a picture I shot back in 2005 using my Sanyo Xacti J2

And some other small ones I shot this year:

Can't be 100% sure from the pic but I think that's some kind of swan and belongs in the duck thread :P

Nope, all hand held. Those hoverflies or whatever they are sometimes hover in a spot for a few seconds. If you're fast enough, you can get them. You can stack the odds a bit by using a smaller aperture to increase DoF.
