Since I just upgraded to FF5 I don't know if that reset the mode, but it is mode 2. However, I do still have my old system which I cloned the install from (easy way to keep all settings and configuration) which I haven't updated yet so is on FF4, and that is also mode 2.

Side note: On my system I just tried the earlier ICC v4 ready check. FF5 gives the middle result. Chrome gave the worst one. IE9 gave the best one. IE and Chrome are latest versions and up to date, no particular configuration to colour. My FF may or may not inherit old settings from continuous upgrades through the years.

This is going to get complicated...

edit: I just looked at the shot in question in IE9, FF5 and Chrome (latest). For good measure, I also opened it in Photoshop Elements in the three rendering settings (none, screen, print). Also Paint Shop Pro 7 (no management).

IE9, Chrome, PSE(none) and PSP7 all give an image with copious amounts of blue. FF5 and PSE(screen) give a grey/purple rendering. PSE(Print) is kinda in between. The crop image also looks different between the three so I suspect might be getting a double dose of error applied. My monitor/windows system is colour calibrated.

Chrome doesn't do colour management which is disappointing, You can do it via hack or at least you used to but I can't get it to work any more. The best ones I know about are IE9 for Windows and Safari for Mac they both support ICC Version 4, Firefox still only supports v2.

And if you check the EXIF data of the image I supplied on the previous page you'll see that it is sRGB. Firefox colour management (under Windows 7) was, until I disabled colour management, mangling sRGB images on my system.

As well as the browser tweaking things you will also have the graphics card and driver as well as the monitor being used and maybe even the OS giving things a tweak.

Just a few of the reasons you never know how close the image someone else sees is what you see. A nightmare when using images in a professional environment and sending them electronically to a client.

I agree, it is a nightmare and I'm just glad that my income doesn't depend on it.

In reply to some other comments, the only non-default Windows color management setting I use here is an ICC profile for my monitor. Firefox's color management code is active when I enable it but Firefox doesn't offer the same fidelity of colour mapping that I get from PhotoShop.

Apologies for "shouting" but this maddens me. If you do something then do it right. At best to do anything else is just plain lazy, sloppy and a number of other epithets I'm unable to share on the forum.

Update: Firefox 5 is now installed (Windows 7 x64) and it still mangles my sRGB images when color management is enabled. Doh!

Just confirmed it. Exported in Bibble (working space ProPhotoRGB), export space is sRGB. Firefox makes the person look dead-ish (desaturated skin tones), whereas chrome's sRGB version is visually identical to Bibble's ProPhotoRGB.

Firefox 8 is now released and can be found here.

Installation as an upgrade from v7 was seamless and there are enough new features and bug fixes to convince me it was worthwhile but I'm still seeing the poor colour management issue that is the subject of this thread so gfx.color_management.mode in the about:config page remains set to 0 (disabled) on my system.

Hmm, that's interesting. There's a new switch in Firefox 8 called gfx.color_management.enablev4. If I type "about:config" in the address bar and toggle that switch to enabled then, even though my monitor profile is ICC2, if I reset gfx.color_management.mode to it's default value of 2 (instead of disabling it by setting 0) then I seem to be getting good ICC2 colour management after a browser restart. Am I imagining this or can anyone else confirm what I think I'm seeing?

But with ICC4 enabled I do seem to be getting some stutter on embedded video and occasional noticeable screen redraw delays when switching tabs so it's back to ICC2 and disabled colour management for now.

Firefox 9 beta is available here. I still think the ICC2 colour management is broken (see above) but the new build, even as a beta, feels faster.

Hmm, interesting. I've just installed a new monitor and its default colour profile and the Firefox issue has gone away. That has me mighty puzzled because with the old, and it was a pretty old monitor, colour profile Photoshop could work fine with it but Firefox couldn't.

So, there are now two solutions I've proved solve the Firefox issue. Set gfx.color_management.mode to 0 as described earlier in the thread or get a better monitor!
