Hi People,
Can't join enough Pentax forums, particularly those based in NZ

I've been a Pentax use since 1975 when I bought a second hand Spotmatic with the 50/1.4. Still have the camera and was overjoyed to learn a few years ago that Pentax were making digital slr that I could still use that old lens on

Bought the K100D new from a local camera shop. It was the last Pentax slr they ever stocked. New Zealand support for the marque is pathetic. No wonder the canikon crew rule the roost when buyers can never sight a Pentax...
Luckily the local auction scene is reasonable so the lens acquisition process is well under way

The highlight of my year is the annual Boxing Day motorbike races.



The Old K100D was getting a bit frustrating for that project. Mainly the small buffer and slow focus.
So I risked all and picked up a second hand K-7 that has been very good.
Lenses for the bikes has developed too. I started with an M200/4, then went to a sigma 70-300 as you do.

Gave the Sigma to a mate and now have the excellent DA55-300



Have toyed with the thought of a K-5. The better iso and DR would be nice

I seem to be beset by the upgrade disease ...
I look at the noise in the shadows at 400iso and have to remind myself that it wouldn't show if I ever got round to getting anything printed

Annoying how good the K-5 apparently is
If I sell the K-7 and the K100D etc then a K-5 might hove into view...

Tried the K100D earlier today with a nice SMC 24/2.8...
Lasted about 10 minutes then swaped the lens to the K-7
sure is faster to use. Had thought of keeping the K100D for it's low noise but really the K-7 is just as good.

Very nice lens the K24/2.8...
here it is at f8 this afternoon on the K-7
seems to hang in as an Av shooter too being nicely sharp wide open.
Great field of view and dof, I was about 1 meter from the grapefruit

Nice shots Transit. I wish Pentax's distributor in NZ would be more pro-active about supporting us as it's clear none of the international subsiduaries are bothered. As you can see from the sticky thread, I'm at a stale mate when it comes to Pentax reviews.

I had an email exchange with Mr Little, asked how come I could import a genuine fully warranted K-5 from Australia, pay postage, GST at the border and still save $500...sigh
I don't think Pentax are doing him any favours either.
It's like they don't want to sell cameras!
Mind you, it keeps second hand prices up

Transit, you should ask them why prices are so expensive in NZ. Is it becuase the wholesaler gives them a terrible deal or is there a middle man with too big a profit margin? Someone is making money.

While you're talking to them, tell them you read reviews on cameralabs and wonder why there aren't any new Pentax reviews here considering they are the NZ supplier... they used to send them to me, but stopped as they prioritise sales over reviews.
