I'd like to double th focal lenght of my scope for prime focus astrophotography.
From what I know (I may be wrong) I have two options. A teleconverter or a 2" Barlow lens like this one
What do tou think ?

Hi Radu,

I have a 4x copy of the TeleVue Powermate and it works well enough. What "teleconverter" are you considering?

Bob.

I was thinking about the Canon teleconverter 2X. I could youse it with my Terran imaging too. But I wouldn't compromise if a teleconverer would give me worst images then the Barlow.

Hi Radu,

I hadn't thought of using the Canon converter. I have no idea how well that might work but using one rather than a Powermate means you couldn't use it with an eyepiece.

Bob.

Hi Bob, I already have an Orion 2X Barlow for my regular eyepieces, and I haven't reached the stage when I want 2" oculars. I need a 2" solution for the Canon 50D. So a 2" Barlow would be used only with the camera, for now, and If I can use a Canon teleconverter, that would be useful with the non astro shots too. I think.
