It was only recently that I heard of SanDisk's new UHS SD cards.

I've found very little about this UHS thing really...

Meanwhile I read that the Nikon D5100 is also UHS-enabled :).

Sony's A77 is UHS-I compatible, too (fortunately!).

UHS is the abbreviation for Ultra High Speed. It's 'new' standard for SD memory cards. So far I've only seen UHS-I class cards, but there will be UHS-II cards somewhere in the future, too :).

They need a compatible camera (like Sony's A77) to achieve their maximum read/write speeds. At first SanDisk (don't know about the other companies) had 45 MB/s cards (with capacities from 8 GB to 32 GB).

They have recently (I think it was somewhere in September or October) released a new variant (8-64 GB) with read/write speeds up to 95/90 MB/s.
