Hi, i need a quick advice, i am about to buy nikkon d5000 or canon eos 550D, and i am wodering about card performance for shooting 1080p video. Will be 9MB/s writing speed enough for canon? I think that for nikon it would, because it has slow framerate. But canon needs a lil bit quicker card .

Card i have is GoodRAM 16GB, class 6. I tested it on computer, and i am bit worried, because i thought i got 20MB/s card

Ideally, it would be great if someone could film 10s of 1080p video on 550D and count its size.

I am thinking with mega bytes, not bits.

Thanks for responses!

The manual for the 7D (near enough same sensor as 550D) recommends 8MB/s minimum read and write speed for video. If you download the 550D manual it will probably say something similar if you want to check up on it.

Your card might still be 20MB/s but only for reads. Generally write speeds are lower.

The 550D manual recommends a class 6, so that's what I got when I bought my camera. It is enough to burst photos well, and take HD videos. Unfortunately, you can't really take advantage of the simultaneous HD video & photo feature. You start your video, take 1-3 photos, and the buffer runs out, stopping the video.

I ordered a class 10 memory card which is supposed to fix the problem.

Hello, this is my first post in the forum. I didn´t want to make a new threat, as it is related to this one.

The thing is i will be buying in the next weeks my first DSRL: Canon 550D.
And i wanted to know what differences there would be if i buy either a memory card of speed 6 or of speed 10?

I have read already that with a class 6 memory card, you cannot use video and shoot photos at the same time. But is there any other difference?
And if i buy a class 10 card, the 550D would go faster or it would be the same?

Well, i am looking forward to some answers.
By the way, sorry for my english if it isn´t good enough haha.

And one more question as i am already writing here, anyone knows how many photos i can take at the maximun resolution with this camera with an 8gb card for example?

Thanks

since birth of first post i bought 60D and class 6 card, so i took it and made quick video which make point of itself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqff3bEzDpg
i am sick lying in the bed, so dont take that angle seriously :D

i know it is 720p but 1080 would be same i think.

first- i dont see any point why would you want to take pictures while making video, but it can be done.

on 16gb one - L fine 999 (that means a lot more)
raw 560
both 436, but i always can shoot 3 more even when it shows 0.

i will buy 32 gig class 10 kingston soon, so if you want comparsion with its performance, send me a reminding pm sometime
