I voted Lightroom. Simply because I am a Lightroom user, love everything it does, and I think the learning curve is extremely easy for 95% of what you may want to do to a photo.

You can download trial versions for free from Adobe, so I suggest you do that and try them. Lightroom and Photoshop work in different ways, they're not exactly replacements for each other so you may still need both depending on what level of editing you want to do.

Personally I don't have any need for Lightroom (too slow, limited editing functionality), and Elements does 99% of my editing needs. The full PS would likely provide that missing 1% and then some, but without the student discount I don't think it is worth it for me.

I'd also vote for Lightroom, but perhaps consider the alternatives. I switched from Lightroom to Bibble and I really like it.

A couple other factors you may want to consider:

1) it's my understanding that educational discounted items are no longer upgradeable.

2) Lightroom is not included in Creative Suite.

I just checked the website for our local university and the student priced adobe products are still upgradable there.

I voted for lightroom. I do have CS5 as well but find myself using lightroom 99% of the time.

I voted lightroom because I love it. I have tried all three and am going to buy Lightroom soon!
