I really love the look and feel of number 4. It seems as though I`m looking through a window into another (miniature) world within the context of a much larger one.
As far is improving it here`s my advice:
-it might need to be straightened because the steps look a bit crooked.
-there`s a some dead space on the left side of the frame that I don`t think adds much so you might consider cropping it out.
-there`s some glare, so I`m assuming that you took the shot through a window or something... I don`t find it too distracting but you might want to photoshop it out.

Composition is getting there. I feel like you have a bit of the same issue as me; your shots look like snap-shots rather than images telling a story. Keep shooting, and try to shoot with a nice balance of visual information.

Looking for contrasting elements: Calm individual in chaos or something like that.

Look for people reacting to their environment: 7 has a little of this, but closer or try to capture the weight and struggle.

Capturing emotion like in 6. Clearly tired, clearly ready for a break. But not literal! Getting closer, or cropping closer would be good.

Not so literal to make it boring... like 1, but like 6, 7 and 8.

To build on what theplatypus said, all of the subjects in your images are in the centre of the frame, perhaps that's why some of them have a snapshot look. Have a look at the rule of thirds for some guidance.

Yes, play with Rule of Thirds.

Number 9's subject is way of to the right, which is okay. But there is no context as to why you're showing us the wall on the left. What is he looking at? What's the story?

Keep on shooting! I can see you have an eye for it!
