I'm planning on going back in a few weeks and this time I'll just shoot in A mode with a aperture of f7>

Is there a rule of thumb when it comes to A mode for your f numbers?

Don't go wide open and don't stop down too much. Depends on the lens really, but you'll lose IQ if you stray into F11+

Generally 1-3 stops down from wide open is your best quality bet.

Depending on weather and light levels, it might be worth sticking a 1 or 2 stop ND filter on the lens to you don't have to stop down too much.

I'm using the Nikon 55-200mm VR lens.

So on a clear sky I'd be looking at around F8 with a little drop of -EV?

I've got a Photoshop related picture.

Is there a way I can get rid of or tone down the intensity of the vignetting?
