Firmware 1.2.5 is back on the Canon UK website. Does that mean there was nothing wrong with the "original" 1.2.5? Or can those who applied 1.2.5 before it was pulled successfully reapply the "new" 1.2.5?

Bob.

I didn't keep a copy of the old one to do a binary comparison, but suggestion on canonrumors is they are the same.

I did use the 7D for a bit with the first release of 1.2.5 and didn't experience any unusual behaviour.

I want to use my 7D for sports mainly. What CF card do I need to use to get the full 8fps?

You can get the full speed regardless of card, but what a faster card allows is faster recovery so you can do it more often in short succession.

If you shoot jpeg it generally isn't a problem at all. If you shoot raw, a Sandisk Extreme works great for me as a balance of cost and performance.

Welcome to the club Mano. No matter what any doubters say, my 7D gives me a great deal of pleasure. Maybe when I win the lottery I'll think about a 5DII or a 1DIV ... I suppose I should buy a ticket one day

Enjoy the camera.

I have to say, I had a Budget of $2000 Australian. (About $2200 US) and actually walked into a few camera stores on Saturday 26th Nov 2011 ready to get the 60D with a super zoom and the whole kit of bat grip, flash, bag, filter - and anything else I may needed - the price was about $1960 after some haggling.

Then I picked up the 60D - and I used to Sell cameras back when the 50D was new.... and..... well, I put it down and asked the bank for another 500 bucks and got the 7D with the 15-85 with 3 years warranty(1+2), bag and UV filter. I RELLY wanted a Bat grip, I really Wanted a lens hood, I REALLY wanted a 32GB card and I really wanted a flash gun.... but imo, the build quality, and the lens was worth the lack of the extra accessories.

My photography teacher always said, its better to feel like a professional instead of looking like one, and the 7D makes me feel I can keep up with those 60D pros in my area who all have these great big honking gear.

Im so glad I decided to leave the 4/3 system and go Canon... 4/3 was great but imo, it didnt make me feel like a pro, even though I was getting work as a photographer - and I always got upset when Uncle sam left his 5D on auto and asked me why my camera is so small.... grrrrr

I second that motion. Occasionally I hanker after a 5DII or even a 1DX, but in reality the 7D delivers far more than I am capable of for now. It's a superb camera.

I dont know if anyone has pointed it out but I was using my 7D in P mode and to change the apeture I had to turn the finger dial to the left to lower the F value, but in Manual mode, I had to turn it right to lower the number.

Also, does the 7D have a rotating screen? I shoot lots of portrait shots and I noticed my screen didnt rotate, is it me or is that just a Nikon thing?

Autorotate is the menu option just above "format" in the first yellow menu.

Guys, I think it's quite a rhetorical question but: switching from the 40D to the 7D will be a huge improvement right? My main problem with the 40D is the auto focus (which just isn't all that good) and I have read and heard that the 7D is pretty much the best thing you can get when not looking into the pro camera's. Next to that the detail and noise is supposed to be better than the 40D. I pretty much made my mind up, but hearing these things confirmed by people that own the camera would actually be quite a reassurance :).
