Adobe has announced version 5.5 of it's creative suite. They pulled a new one here as it forces you to upgrade faster than with the "normal" V3, V4, V5 cycle - if you like to use the new features.
But it could be a sign of developments of this vast array of editing software being brought faster to market instead of waiting for all products to finish their dev.-cycle.
But looking into the details I see the following:
- Photoshop is still on V5.0 (and no new Lightroom either)
- Premiere is upgraded to V5.5 probably predominantly to better support the ever growing market of video on smartphones.
- Dreamweaver also got the upgrade to V5.5
I didn't check all the other tools, but at least from a photog#s perspective it looks like you can skip this point-release...

Adobe saw what Apple did, and is releasing a service pack for the price of an upgrade.....

Bring it on fanboys!

Yeah!
Illustrator also doesn't get an upgrade: It also stays as V5.0.
And Acrobat/Reader seems to be stuck at version X too.
So all is not lost...
