Tweaking the layers in Gimp, either I havent got the trick, or it is really hard to do. Not very intuitive I think or maybe I just don't understand Gimp.
But in Gimp the sun completely disapeared in the lower layers and there were only the sunbeams on the mountains.
I tried to set the exposiure as low as it could so the suns would stand out more in the merged photo. Then merged them in my HDR software, after that I adjusted the colors etc. And this is how it came out
This is all in LR, no gimp, but with enfuse plugin
I regret I didn't shoot raw, but it was something like this I was looking for.
