Hi everyone, I've been testing the LX5 for a while now and ahead of my full review can reveal a comparison against the Canon PowerShot S95 and IXUS 300 HS / SD4000 IS at high sensitivities!

Im very pleased with my LX5 so far.

I did find one error in the review where you say
"The only downside to Panasonic's implementation on the LX5 is that you can't power-up the camera into playback by pressing and holding the play button"

You mention this problem several times in the review.
This works very well for me though.
No need to change the settings to always start up in playback mode, and no need to remove the lens cap.
I just press and hold the playback button while i turn the camera on and it powers up right into playback mode.
I dont know why this wouldnt work on your LX5. Hmmm.

Thanks for the tip. What I'd really like the camera to do - and what I was referring to in the review - was being able to just press and hold the play button by itself to power-up the camera, like most other compacts.

I will make a note of this technique in the review though.

Gordon you gave a high mark for the LX5. From I can see and read owners of LX3's will NOT be in hurry to upgrade really.

ttan98, it depends what existing LX3 owners want. If they want a longer zoom, longer recording times, the ability to zoom when filming, the possibility of mounting an EVF - or any of the reasons listed at the start of my review - then they'll want to upgrade.

If they want significantly better image quality in a smallish body though, they should upgrade to an EVIL model.

After using a Nikon 610 for a few years and tiring from not having hardly any controls, the LX5 is a huge step up for me.
For a few weeks I borrowed a Nikon D60 to get the feel of what the SLR camera is all about.
Now, I am thrilled about owning an LX5 and look forward to using more of the options available to me.

Great camera! Love to read more about other people who have had experience with this camera.
