So I tried my hands at the auto exposure metering for the first time, and here are my 3 shots......which of them is the true representative of the sky? All taken at 6pm on Mar 29th

#2 is the best of the bunch when it comes to the sky, but it still has some portions where there are blown highlights.

I agree #2 but I don't think the sky is a good subject when evaluating +- EV.

Another vote for number 2, but it's still not perfect. As mentioned, the highlights are still slightly blown in certain areas. It's hard to get a good exposure to truly represent the sky.

They all are, but it depends on what YOU are trying to represent. Even with auto exposure, you still control the area of the image the camera chooses to meter so it usually depends on whether you want a blown sky or dark foreground.

As a shot correctly exposing the detail in the sky, then it's obviously #2 and it's not close.
