I have a large collection of slides from some years ago, before digital cameras, when slides were the best way to take photos to avoid the vagaries of printing results. They are mostly stored in carousel round slide magazines and I am now looking for a slide scanner which can take round slide magazines. The only one I have come across is the Reflecta DigitDia 5000. There don't appear to be any other options.

Does anyone know of any other options for carousel slide magazines?

I have seen some reviews of this scanner which seem to be quite favourable, although some have experienced problems with the scanner loading certain types of slide. The final results appear to be good when the scanner can load the slides.

Has anyone got experience of this scanner? Can it take standard carousel magazines or is it temperamental about the type of slide magazine? Mine are mostly Hanimex Rondex 120 magazines and similar magazines from Boots. I didn't think these magazines varied at all in their design.

The pricing of this scanner is very variable. At present some internet sources price it at over £1,300 while others price it around £760 to £950. Any advice on where to buy? It does seem a bit pricey.

I see there are some viewing this topic but no replies. I have done some research and it would seem that the Reflecta will take Braun Paximat but maybe not the Hanimex. I can not find any difinitive answer one way or the other. I have therefore gone for the Plustek Optic Film 7600i scanner. That is around a quarter of the price and gives good results. It just means I can't use the magazines that the slides are stored in. But it is not worth getting a scanner at four times the price only to find I can't use it for the main reason I bought it for, to use the round slide magazines directly.
