I think my question, as a ZS7 owner, are the photos taken with the ZS10 better, worse or no different that the ZS7?

@Cruiseman - you'd have to compare the results and gallery pages from both reviews. But remember while the MOS sensor in the TZ20 / ZS10 is undoubtedly noisy, it does have other benefits in terms of video and continuous shooting which may outweigh it. If you upgraded to the TZ20 / ZS10 it'd be for these benefits, and of course the longer lens.

@thepominlaw - the GF1 is a lovely camera and will deliver much better quality than traditional compacts due to its much bigger sensor, although you won't find a 16x 24-384mm lens for it!

The GF1 "was" a great camera i got 35 shots out of it before it died, initially it would stop focusing then it just locked up completely and as yet I have been unable to get it to operate so its going back for a full refund. Very disapointing experience from a camera i was really looking forward to.

On a better note the TZ20 arrives on Tuesday :D

Hi! I am waiting for Yours Sony HX7/HX9, Canon 230HS, Panasonic ZS8/10 and Nikon S9100 reviews.
Can't decide what to buy, Sony and panasonic cameras are to expensive (in Latvia HX7V - 400$, HX9 - not available but i think price will be 500+ $; zs8 - 420$, zs10 - 520$, 230HS - 410$, S9100 - 380$).
Want spend about 400$ +/-:
HX7 has only 10 x zoom and 16 MP are too much i think;
zs8 has ccd sensor and video only HD;
so there are only 2 variants: canon 220/230HS or nikon S9100.
How do You think what cameras has the better image quality?

P.S. sorry for my bad english ;)

Hi deniss, I'm also looking forward to comparing these cameras, but at the moment, the only one I have is the Panasonic, so I can't comment on the others yet.

Great review Gordon!
Panasonic TZ20 again disappoints me - image quality is terrible.
As I saw Canon's 220/230 sample images - canon's image quality is much better. Sony's images might be the same quality as canon's.
Now I'm thinking to buy Nikon S9100, how do You think - is nikon rival for panasonic, sony and canon cameras?

Thanks Deniss - as I said above though I can't comment on cameras I haven't tested yet.

Hi,

Would it be possible to include a macro shot in the sample images? Or did I miss it?

Thanks for the review.

Hi! Today bought another super zoom cam - Nikon s9100.
First impression is good, one thing that I found - cam sometimes can't focuss at max zoom.
If interested, later will upload sample photos.

I just got my ZS10 in the mail. I have to say, I didn't see the camera labs review until after I ordered it and when I saw the image quality at 14 I was like oh no... Planned on returning it. But after comparing shots with my zs3, I have to say every shot was better with my new zs10. Much better color, less noise. I also have a zs7 (well its my wifes) so ill try some comparisons with it too.

More testing needed, but it looks like a keeper. I think the only feature its lacking for me is the 120 FPS 640x480 mode that the sx230 has. that QVGA slow motion mode is useless, why bother?

Touch screen is 1/2 usefull 1/2 annoying. Im sure ill get used to it.

OH and I made an adapter for it so it can hold 52mm filters. Goal was to add nuetral density for taking waterfall pics. Ill let you know how that works out.

Hopefully when the sx230 & hx9 reviews come out I wont have any regrets.

Jon

Here is one shot I took today with the DIY filter. Nothing special but it worked.

zs7 vs zs10 is 50/50. Some shots better with zs10, some better with zs7 but all in all DAM close. Some images had a bit more noise with the zs10, but at the same time showed more detail (due to 14m ?)

Its a tough call to upgrade or not. I did see some patchieness in very small areas with zs10, where the zs7 was smooth.

liking the manual mode, 1080 movies and rapid fire 10 40 60 fps..

To return or not to return is question.. Tough call.
