So here is a photo of a pretty crazy project I'm working on right now. More to come as it gets closer to having a mount and so on.

9 inches? Nice :D Please tell me that's a 50mm f/0.22!

Ok, that's somewhat on the impossible side... how about a 640mm f/2.8? 900mm f/4?

I didn't want to tell anyone until I had verified the exact measurements. But it is either a 622mm at about f2.7 or it is 405mm at f1.5. I'm working on some answers for that and will be sure to update.

If I may ask, do you grind your own glass? Likewise the optical design?

Not sure what the lens structure is and no - don't grind my own. It is from a larger optical assembly.
Incidentally my camera can focus it from about 16" behind the rear flange. Which means the barrel will be quite short.
