Christchurch, New Zealand, suffered another Earthquake today, less powerful than the last, but much closer to the surface, causing much more damage and many casualties. Our thoughts go out to everyone in Christchurch, their friends and families.

Best of luck.
To give anyone not from NZ an idea of the scale of the quake, here's a before and after shot of a building (via Reddit):

All the best for those in that beautiful city. Shallow quakes are no fun at all - having lost my home to one years ago. Hopefully all our NZers can chime in when they've got the chance and confirm they're OK...especially anyone from the Christchurch area.

Awful. I was lucky enough to visit a few years ago and it's hard to reconcile those memories with what we see on the news.

The video here puts the tragedy of wrecked homes at a much more personal level.

Let's hope that the aftershocks stop soon and that the rescuers can complete their work and that Christchurch and the surrounding communities can get on with rebuilding.

Bob.
