What's the difference between the two lens? (They are the same 17-55mm). Did Nikon change their packaging?

Edit: This forum can't autosize images?

No difference in the lens, they just changed the packaging. Which is not that strange considering it is a "pro" lens. Do not ask me which one is the newer version of the boxes, but I assume it is the one with gold band on it. If the lens was newer, it wouldn't include IF-ED in the name anymore as with the newer released lenses the IF disappeared.

PS, you might want to change the size of your picture as it far exceeds my 1366 monitor resolution.

As far as I know there is only one version of the DX AF-S 17-55/2.8G IF-ED.
So differences in packaging might be up to updated corporate design rules at Nikon.
I'd assume from the looks of it that the left package is the later version.

So lens never make any minor improvements? Like a v1.0.1 or something?

Minor improvements are always possible, but it is highly unlikely that you will notice them. A minor improvement is maybe a different badge on the lens as they did with the 300/2.8 before it got updated. The reason for this change of box and badge could be to have the same house style on all products.
