My default is to shoot in Raw + Large Fine JPEG. The RAW gives me ultimate freedom to fiddle with pictures on the PC. The JPEG is there as a backup and for that my default settings are Landscape style (but I usually shoot in P mode) with Daylight white balance and one extra notch of in camera sharpening over and above the default value.

before Christmas with the intention of showing what some post-processing (fiddling!) can do. The first picture is the finished article while the second is as it came out of the camera.
Being more of a technophile than a photographer I find that I usually need to "improve" my shots!
