I'm wondering which one the two Manfrotto tripods should I buy (7301YB or MK394-H), considering that:
1) they have absolutely identical technical specifications (apart from color)
2) their price is quite different
Now, where is the trick?
If they are the same product, why 2 different models?
Is it true that 7301YB is "out of production" and has been substituted by MK394-H?

I can agree on an upgrade in design, but if so why is the price of the newer model 30% lower? strange...

Sometimes it's simply a case of volume and availability. Older stock is often more expensive than the latest models.

I haven't compared the two models in question though so can't comment on their quality or features - sorry!

If you can extend your budget a little, Id really recommend going for one of the 190 or 055 series with an additional head.

Is it for an SLR?

I can extend my budget, and I've thought to 190XDB + 804RC2: it's surely more reliable and suitable (especially for macro, which I like), but the weight is the negative point: 2.5 kg (190+804) vs 1.67 Kg (7301YB or MK394-H).
I often walk around with all my photo equipment, and the 190 is not so enjoyable to carry. My outfit is: Nikon D300 + 18-200 f.3.5-5.6 + 105 f.2.8.
Thanks for your comment...

Gordon,
I forgot to congratulate you for your reviews on Manfrotto's tripods: they are very well done.
