Philippe Halsman is quite possibly the only photographer who made his career by taking pictures of people jumping. The claimed that the act of jumping revealed the true identity of his models, and noting his most famous jump, "Dalí Atomicus," we can only agree. The photograph is a tribute to Halsman on both the atomic age (reported by scientists at the time whose thesis is telling the whole matter is in a constant state of suspension) and Dali's surrealist masterpiece "Leda Atomica " (which seen behind the cats, unfinished at the time). Took six hours, 28 jumps and a roomful of assistants throwing cats and buckets of water.

As a group of photographers I am inspired by the Magnum group, Bresson, McCurry, etc... I highly recommend the book, Magnum Degrees, for anyone that's interested in street, journalistic photography.

famous photographers - such as Jim Zuckerman, George Schaub, Bill Neill,

Margaret Bourke-White and Henri Cartier-Bresson inspired me from a young age, though it was decades later when I bought my first camera that was not a toy, and only last year became serious about photography. (My 50th birthday is half a year away; and I lament that I did not become serious about photography until after I started needing prescription eyeglasses.)

This discussion has prompted me to start looking at today's professionals and artists for inspiration. Thanks to all who have contributed!

A little from the other side - does somebody NOT have any photo inspiration like i do?

Because, i just like to shoot, i dont really try to simulate anyone. At one film festival, they asked me what is my favourite photographer - i could not name a one name!

Inspiration does not necessarily equal simulation.

On a different level than the photographic artists, I am inspired by my wife's ability to take very technically accurate photos without tripod support, and often without looking through the viewfinder. A virtual human tripod, she is so remarkably steady, it is awe-inspiring. She does the vast majority of her photography at work, as a forensic investigator for the local medical examiner.

i have trouble to explain what i mean in my mother tongue to english - i ment trying to achieve great looking photos of someone,

simulate is maybe not the right word.

Nobuyoshi Araki is another photographer that inspire me. His photography is full of vitality.

Found this video part 1 and part 2 on youtube. It show Araki at work. From that video we can see how he love photography, I wish I have that kind of energy
