Hi folks,

In a move which should be an exemplar to all manufacturers Sony will release the specifications of its "E" mount system, as used on the NEX cameras, for free to other manufacturers. You can read the press release here. It is really refreshing that Sony understand that by getting the widest possible support for their mount they win and we all win. 8)

Bob.

I wonder if that's in response to the flurry of support for m4/3 seen recently? By opening their mount they could help keep up on that. A generally positive move I think, but I guess those more serious will have to look at the small print in close detail.

A universal body sounds great. Now give me a viewfinder and some manual controls and I will be really happy.

Agreed. I'm waiting as well.

original sony E-lenses are cool but cheaper plastic body lenses from other manufacturers is a big help...

I always looked at camera bodies as a conduit to a good lens, so going cheap on the most important part of the equation would be somewhat self-defeating.
Having the convenience of a small solid body that accepts ALL the manufacturers top glass has been a dream for many.

Just think about the possibilities, when going abroad you can just put the body in your pocket and once you arrive at your destination you can “rent” whatever lens you need for a couple of day.
Game shots in Africa = EF500mm monster or a nice CZ prime for Paris.

yep... in the case of the NEX, the priority in the design is the smallness... that will be the main reason if i ever buy one...

the objective of the release is for other manufacturers to actually manufacture lens with E-specs and not only make adapters for other brand/standard to work with NEX i think...

Your right, I’m drifting a bit and probably more interested in the convenience of the adapter applications rather than the actual E-mount.

but i'm sure adapters will come early... easy to design and manufacture than regular lenses... i'm hoping for an EF/EFS adapter also...

edit: a black NEX-3 with an EF 50 F1.8 or an EF 35 F2.0 keeps flashing on my mind... hows that for street photography? :)
