hi guy,

me and my family planing to go to beach in the next two day.
this is my first using DSLR on beach.

i have some photo on my mine what i wanted.

but i need some advice or tip about thing i should do or shouldn't do.
or should i using compact instate (still wanted to DSLR )

what i should expect picture should i expect beach?

i don't have dry box i just store my DSLR and gears in my bage is it ok?

Living at the beach I should probably comment.

I wouldnt worry about a "dry box." I take my entry level non weather sealed camera onto the beach every day. Wind, sand and sea splashing around its fine. I would only take one lens though, and definitely wouldnt change lenses on the beach itself.

If its a bright day, be prepared and ready to dial in some exposure compensation to get the exposure you want. Cameras tend to underexpose in my experience on the beach. Once you have the exposure you like, maybe dial that into manual mode to get consistent results.

Again if it is bright and you are taking shots of people, dont be afraid to pop the flash (in bright daylight I know!) to fill in the shadow regions of people's faces as the shadows may well be harsh.

I agree. Also living in a beach town, my camera (also entry level DSLR, non weather-sealed) spends lots of time on sandy beaches, near ocean, windy days, salt spray, etc. Advice above is good - pretty much changing lenses out on the sand, or putting the camera down on the sand are the two things I avoid doing. I'd recommend if hanging out on the beach, with family or friends, on a towel or blanket, maybe bringing along a well sealed camera bag, or even a cooler...or worst-case scenario bring a large zip-loc plastic bag, to put the camera in when not in use - this way if it is sitting on the towel or blanket, there are no worries of someone kicking sand onto it or knocking it over into the sand.

Exposures as mentioned may run a bit hot - often dialing in some -EV is needed. Wipe the camera down with a nice microfiber lens - maybe VERY lightly moist with clean water, to wipe off salt residue and sand that does get on the camera before removing the lens.

You should be fine.

We have 60 kilometers of beach 4 kilometers down the road and bright sun. Like Zack said use some -EV, in this recent post my setting where mostly f8 and let the camera work out the speed, all were 0-7EV and ISO 200 with auto WB .

This was the first time I left my lens pen in the car, my shirt wasn't good enough to clean the lens when splashed, I don't think the beach will harm the camera if you take the advice above of changing the lens unless you want to swim with it.

Above suggestions are more than enough for you to take care of your photo gear at beach.. Try going there in the early morning or at evening at around 5 or something depending on the light..

As they say early morning or early evening will be the right time to take good photos as you will get enough light conditions.. avoid taking photos during afternoon if you are still at the beach to avoid harsh light... i am sure you are aware of this though

I think all of ur advice is more than enough,thank.

On that day i probably using my 18-135(mostly) and 50mm (few) for portrait
maybe 100mm (very few if need).

i will follow every advice i'm will pre- change my lens before go to beach.
I try to buy some zip-loc plastic bag like zackiedawg say(but not cooler).

just litttle bit more question.

Is it a good thing to use canon EX flash and tripod ?:?:
and i mostly put everything in my new bag(just receive thought not it make it in time)

Is the Lowepro Slingshot 302 AW is weather-sealed bag?

I wouldnt bring either a tripod or flash. Tripod, no point unless you want to do really quite specialist stuff. Flash, not worth its weight to carry. You'll only need your flash to fill in some shadows in faces which the pop up will do just as well.

I wouldnt bring the 100mm either.

You'll be fine on the beach as long as you're not changing lenses in the open. I had a photo landscape session in the desert recently and the really fine dusty sand is a major pain in the a** - I'm still finding it under the eyepiece after cleaning on several occasions, and my 24-70 was grinding when zooming for a week or so!

So my only other piece of advice - be careful if using a zoom and there's fine sand around - it may get into the zoom mechanism or get sucked into the lens itself, if you find yourself and the camera getting sticky...!
