ETA (estimated time of arrival) is in two weeks.
That's just before the holidays.
Hope my dealer's right!
The 85/1.4 is longer on the market than the 35/1.4 I also ordered - so should be easier to get. But who knows: all comes down to supply and demand :?

Hmm, surprise, surprise: The 35/1.4 already is in stock, the 85/1.4G not (yet)

There's still not even an estimated delivery date for the 85/1.4G

Now I've got the 2nd calender-week.
But the dealer didn't sound too convinced.

I also expected to get the 85/1.4G before the 35/1.4G.
But perhaps wide-angle primes are not in high demand, esp. for DX shooters.

ultra-wide-angle primes on the other hand are very welcome for DX-shooters. In Holland all 3 new 1.4 primes are backordered, so it is a wider spread "problem".

With regard to delivery situation at my fav price-search for Germany and Austria the following situation is stated:
- 85/1.4G is listed as available at 2 out of 25 shops
- 50/1.4G is available at 17 out of 72 shops
- 35/1.4G is available at 4 out of 26 shops
- 24/1.4G is available at 11 out of 34 shops
So the 85/1.4G seems the rarest of the bunch
But remember: if the lens is not in stock that says nothing about delivery times.

True, can be that they are still filling pre-orders.
Anyway looking forward to another of your informative reviews.

Finally: The lens arrived!
Still a little bit miffed about the flimsy "soft-pouch" :?

Dear Thomas

Yes, I just don't use them. Usually it's a terrible fit with the lens (often the hard disc at the bottom is way too big). One might expect more with a lens of that calibre.

I change lenses seldom, so most are accommodated on the cameras but I pick up a suitably sized Lowepro case if I want to feel secure about carrying individual lenses - they're not very expensive.

Fascinated to se how you find the 85.

When I mounted the lens on the D300 I thought "Wow, that is a really bulky lens!". But compared to the 35/1.4G it's not much of a difference. I think the circular non-butterfly lens-hood is adding to the impression of bulk :)
Will do some shots of both lenses on camera this weekend.
First testshots made me look at the EXIF-data again to make sure they were really, really made at f/1.4 - so contrasty and sharp they were
I think, I'm gonna like this lens...

Thomas, if you still have the 35mm in your possession could you maybe post a size comparison picture of them together? Maybe with a 50mm as well if you have one? Thanks and no worries if you cant

I'll show all three f/1.4 primes: 35-50-85.
Hope to get to it this weekend
