I am looking for a lightweight but sturdy tripod at fairly low expense. I have seen the Slik 340 and it seems to fit the bill. However the Jessops Major also seems good. Both get some criticism in reviews. The Slik has criticism of the leg locking clips which are apparently a bit weak. The Jessops is apparently not that light for a carbon fibre tripod and is longer than the Slik when collapsed.

I would be using a Canon 40D with a Canon 70-200 f/4L IS lens as a maximum weight. The Slik is meant to take a load of 5Kgs but there are some comments that it is reaching its limit at around 4Kgs. Should still not be a problem for a Canon 40D and 70-200 lens combination though?

Canon 40D, EF-S 17-85mm IS USM, EF 70-300 IS USM, EF 50mm f/1.4, EF-S 10-22mm.
Canon 6D, EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM, EF 70-200 f/4L IS USM, Speedlite 430EX II.

I wouldn't really trust the Jessops. 80 quid just is VERY cheap for a CF tripod. I got my CF tripod (Hama Omega II) for 200 euros, and I thought THAT was already very cheap.

Also, I truly dislike those 3-way heads. Ballheads are much better (imho).

I take pictures so quickly, my highschool was "Continuous High".
