Hi all
I see the a390 going for around £329 at the moment and tempted to get one for a member of the family.
I don't know anything about the Sony range of entry level DSLR's and which ones are the best to get.
I im thinking the a390 might be a bit too basic and not best build quality, im still reading a few reviews.
Any thoughts on a good way to go?
Sony would be the way as he has a number of manual decent Minolta lenses that he could use with the body.
Cheers

You probably answered your own question with the above quote.
Lenses are the key, so although the A390 is a “basic” camera it will do most if not any job.
He can move up to anything within the Alpha range as the Minolta lenses are compatible, so if he’s looking at “price” than go for it.

Thanks for the reply.
Ive just been out to a local Jessops near by for something else and had a look at display a390.
I think another model up the range a bit would be better.
Do they have something comparable to a D80 / D90 build quality / size / weight?
It felt like my Panasonic FZ38, its a very good camera but very plasticky and small / fiddly to operate...

If you want to stay with the Alpha line, the A500-series are all quality cameras. Also the A55 is the 2010 Camera of the year (popular photography)

Lots of choices, only you can decide.

Ok thanks for that, l'll have a bit of a search about and see what's out there.
Are the a500 range the same size as the a300 range?

I believe so, but with a nice rubbery grip and body texture.
* the 390 is smaller than the 300 & 350 (I believe)
