I remember, but they give up on it, and the technology has been leapfrogged many times over since then.

It is a new implementation, it didnt exist yet in this form (or any form) in the Digital era if I am right.

The Nikon D3100 was a pretty nice camera, perhaps not the best, but it certainly redefined your "Bare Bones Entry Level" camera.

I think all new cameras were top quality in 2010. They are all winners.. these are my favourites:

Pentax K5 and K-r
Sony NEX 3, 5 and A55
Nikon D7000 and D3100

For me, the winners are the T2i, NEX 3/5, A33/55.

A Vote for Pentax K-R - as best Entry-Level DSLR.

Does everything the very good K-X does - plus more. Good high-ISO performance, 6fps Continuous, RAW - PEF or DNG selectable, in-body shake-reduction.

No need to argue whether Power-Packs or AAs are best for hobby/consumer level cameras - the K-R has both.

And for those on a tight budget - there's a large array of M42 and K-mount lenses available... Choose carefully - and you can get very good glass at a reasonable price. (Not just with the K-R - any Pentax DSLR.)

For those interested in such, it also does Std HD Video.

Dave.
