Hi everyone! Welcome to December's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "translucence", as suggested by djfsolo who won the October 2010 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules.

In djfsolo's own words:

"I would like the theme for December to be translucence. As in the primary subject of the image must have translucent qualities. So long as the content of the image isn't 100% opaque, its game.

No extreme post-processing i.e. selective color, image combinations/alterations."



The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it MUST be taken during December 2010. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 1024 pixels* on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. Keep it clean and family-friendly or it'll be removed. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Spooky coincidence, these were hanging outside my window yesterday. Just had an avalanche of snow fall off the roof and today they are gone.

This was taken at a fire call I had yesterday. I thought it turned out fairly well for a spur of the moment shot and early morning light. What do you all think? Water is translucent, right?

My first entry, be kind! 4 bottles in a triangle with a small torch in the back middle bottle.

Cropped and a little decrease in green saturation in PP on Aperture 3.

Hope this counts as Translucence. Took me quite a while to take this photo. Set the camera up on a tripod with shutter release cable and used the cameras built in flash. Used an old pipette I found lying around and took about 400 shots to get this one.

A new camera I am putting together. The bezel doesn't say leica, but it'll do.

This is an Indian Glassfish (Chanda ranga) taken at a freshwater aquarium in Sea World. This particular tank is a lot of fun for kids, because there's a button you can push which back-lights the fish, and really lets you observe just how see-through they really are! My mom pushed the button for me while I tried to get a clean shot. I ended up converting to B&W because there was just no way to fix the weird yellow color coming from the lights behind the tank.

Quite tricky getting the autofocus to lock onto the rind rather than the jar.
